Prof. Juan José Benito is Ph Doctor Industrial engineer (Technical University of Madrid (TUM)) and Professor in Mechanics of continuous media and structural theory Area (MCM and ST) from 1998, at the Department of construction and manufacture engineering from University of Distant Learning (Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED)) from 1982.

He was program head of the Doctorate program of construction and production (UNED) and the Doctorate program of Dynamic of structures and earthquake engineering (TUM). Actually he is   Director of Master’s of construction studies program, Director of Master’s theoretical and practical application of finite element method and CAE simulation and Director of Master’s Soil mechanics (UNED-CEDEX). He also collaborate in the Doctorate program of Applied Mathematics, Master’s in Seismic engineering (TUM), Master in Industrial technologies research, Master’s in Polymer sciences and technology  and other postgraduate courses.

He was First Assistant Rector of Industrial Engineering Department (IED) of (UNED) (1988-1995), Chairman of Research Commission of UNED (2000-2001)and Vice-Chancellor of UNED (2001-2005). He has three research incentive awards and the silver medal of UNED.

He has participated over thirty I+D+I projects subsidized by public (CICYT, INI, Junta de Comunidades de C-LM) and private institutions (Inypsa, Ingeciber.SA,..) giving rise to numerous publications (I+D Initec, Consejo de Seguridad Nuclear..) , papers in national journals (Hormigón y Acero, Cuadernos de Intemac,..), papers in international journals (European Journal of Mechanics, Communications in Numerical Methods in Engineering, Applied Mathematical Modeling, Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering, International Journal in Computational Engineering Science, Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering, Revista Internacional de Métodos Numéricos para el Cáculo y Diseño en Ingeniería, Computational Methods in Engineering Science and Mechanics, Computer and Structures, Int.
